Join us Labor Day weekend for the Calarat Challenge Trail Running Festival. We start the festivities off on Saturday night with a 5K that you can run, walk or hike, and our Kids 1K. Then on Sunday morning, we have the 1/2 MARATHON and 10K. All trail races start and finish at the Cal-Wood Education Center, and are run on a number of different trails throughout the beautiful private properties of Cal-Wood and Balarat Outdoor Education Center.

Cal-Wood Education Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing unique outdoor education experiences that inspire a greater appreciation for the natural world. They aim to offer enriching environmental education programs that foster a sense of wonder, responsibility, and stewardship in students of all ages, with a particular focus on including underrepresented and low-income communities.

Since their inception, Cal-Wood has been a beacon of hands-on learning and environmental advocacy. They proudly offer programs that immerse participants in the wonders of nature, from their summer camps to their year-round educational field trips, family camps, and workshops. Their dedicated team of educators work tirelessly to cultivate a deep connection between our visitors and the environment.

We have cabin lodging or camping on Saturday night, as well as a great pasta dinner prepared. After the race, celebrate your accomplishment with your family, friends, and fellow participants at our after race party. We will have food, beer, and music, so come on up and enjoy everything Cal-wood has to offer. 

If you are a parent participating in the Calarat Challenge Trail Running Festival, then consider our Kid Adventure Time Program on Sunday morning for 5 - 10 year olds. Cal-wood Instructors will provide and supervise outdoor activities from 7:30 - 10:30AM, so that you can enjoy your race!

Lodging/ MEALS/ CHILD SUPERVISION

To add to the Cal-wood experience, the team at Cal-wood will now be taking direct bookings for lodging, meals and child supervision - HERE.

CABINS - Each rustic log cabin contains 5 bunk beds and sleeps up to 10 people. These cabins are available for Saturday night, and pricing is based on having your own sleeping bag/ linens and pillow. These are shared cabins, but if you’d like to ensure privacy, you have the option of renting a whole cabin. Let us know if you’d like to room with specific people, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

• Whole Cabin for up to 10 People - $200.00

• Cabin Bed: Age 13+, and Adult - $25.00

• Cabin Bed: 6 - 12 years - $10.00

• Cabin Bed: 5 years & under - FREE

CAMPING - There are 5 main campsites which include flat space for multiple tents, picnic tables and a fire pit. You must bring your own sleeping gear.

SATURDAY NIGHT DINNER - Dinner will be from 6:00 - 7:00PM at the Cal-wood Lodge. We will have a vegetarian and meat pasta option (incl. gluten free), roasted vegetables, salad and garlic bread. There will be Avery beer options as well as mineral water. Please note any dietary restrictions on your registration form.

SUNDAY MORNING BREAKFAST - Breakfast will be from 6:00 - 7:30AM at the Cal-wood Lodge. We will have Granola Cereal, Bagels, Fruit, OJ and Coffee.

Chip, our Cal-wood Instructor, will provide and supervise outdoor activities from 7:30 - 10:30AM, so that you can enjoy your race!
