The Frank Shorter Track Classic is a track meet honoring one of America's greatest ever distance athletes, Frank Shorter. Every year we will celebrate Frank's career, his devotion to the sport of running, and promotion of health and fitness, while also acknowledging a different Boulder Olympian every year. For 2025, we are excited to announce 2012 London Olympic Marathoner Edna Kiplagat, as the local Olympian we will be honoring.
Edna, is a Kenyan long distance runner who trains and resides in Boulder, CO and has had an international running career spanning nearly 30 years. Edna ran at the 2012 London Olympic Games Marathon, placing 20th in 2:27:52.
Edna’s international career started in 1996, when she won a silver medal at the World Junior Championships over 3,000m, and then a bronze medal at the 1998 World Junior XC Championships. Edna spent a number of her earliest years on the track, but it was when she moved to the roads and in particular the marathon, that Edna had her greatest success and at 45 years of age, she does not look like she will be slowing down anytime soon! In fact, in 2024 at age 44, she ran a new half-marathon PB of 67:42, finished 3rd in the Boston Marathon, and won the Beach to Beacon 10K road race.
Edna has had 11 Top 3 finishes at World Marathon Major events, and has twice won the World Athletics Marathon Championships and three times has won the Abbott World Marathon Majors Series Title.

The Frank Shorter Track Classic on Sunday May 11th, will host a series of track races over 800m, 1-Mile, 2-Miles and 5,000m, and will be held at Niwot High School (8989 Niwot Rd, Niwot, CO 80503).
ABOUT FRANK SHORTER
Frank was a two time Olympian and won a gold medal in the marathon at the 1972 Munich Olympics while also placing 5th in the 10,000m. Then 4 years later, Frank won a silver medal in the marathon at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Frank also won the U.S national cross country championships four times (1970 - 1973), was the U.S Olympic Trials champion at 10,000m and the marathon in both 1972 and 1976, won both the 10,000m and the marathon at the 1971 Pan American Games and was a four time winner of the prestigious Fukuoka marathon (1971 - 1974).

PLEASE NOTE: The final timetable for our meet, is determined by how many registrations we get. A rough timetable with the slowest heat going first is:

ADDITIONAL NOTES
There are NO age restrictions for the 800m and 1-Mile.
You must be 13 years or older for the 2-Mile and 5,000m
There are NO time standards to enter.
All athletes will be placed in heats with other athletes that have recorded similar times.
Heats will run from slowest times to fastest times.
